Underwater Scooter League Race This Weekend in Ft. Lauderdale!
The Formula H2O circuit is cruising to Ft. Lauderdale for a pit stop at South Florida Diving Headquarters. On Sunday, August 22, racers will be doing laps on an underwater track circumnavigating the perimeter of the wreck Tracey. In depths of less than 65’, spectators can easily watch from the infield while hovering on the structure next to film crews from the Discovery Channel covering the event.
Celebrity racer Dean Vitale with his Pegasus Thruster will be defending his title from the inaugural event on the Vandenberg and the Shark Whisperer wrecks. David Ulla is racing to help sharks, openly challenging other racers to compete for a charitable or environmental organization.
There are various categories for small and large DPVs, so you’re welcome to bring what you have and join the fun! At this event, instead of just being able to see the race car and hear the engine roar like a NASCAR competition, here you can actually test drive a NASCOOTER.
This Saturday, divers can go out on the practice boat where scooter/DPV representatives will be on hand for demos and a run on the same underwater course as the participants of the race. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to feel the adrenalin, and have the experience first hand. Both the practice runs and race event will be followed by drift dives over beautiful coral reefs, to make for two wonderfully full days in the water.
