A Shallow Mystery: The B-Street Schooner
East of Bayou Chico in Pensacola Bay is yet another historic shipwreck, part of the rich cultural resources of the bay. Resting in only five to seven feet of water, the mid 19th-century B-Street Schooner has many questions left to answer. Not much is known about the vessel, its use, name, a precise date, or even if the vessel is, in fact, a schooner. The University of West Florida, during the summer 2009 Maritime Archaeology Field School, officially began excavations to answer these and other research questions pertaining to this large, mysterious vessel.
